The Amazon Rosewood Back Plates
We prepared the back plates for joining and in the process salvaged enough wood to have a bookmatched headplate. We need to clean up the joint before gluing.
Larry Sakayama's Shop in Wirtz, VA
Scarf Joint for Neck Headstock
We cut the scarf joint, thicknessed the headstock piece to 1/2" (final headstock thickness will be 5/8" with headplate and veneer), and glued the neck shaft and headstock pieces together.
Larry's guitar in progress
Being built from various piece of wood laying around the shop. The top is pieced together from a 2x4.
Robbie's Gibson
It's a Gibson CE I've used for years. We were discussing the fingerboard radius. Its flat like a classical guitar with a 1 3/4" width at the nut.
It has a Shadow pick up and pre amp.
Similar to a Les Paul i.e. solid mahogany body and neck with a spruce top. There are channels routed into the body under the top to produce a nice warm tone and lots of sustain when amplified.
We were also discussing the low neck profile with a slight "D" shape and the flat heal to facilitate playing in foreign territory-past the 12th fret. The neck profile is close to the G4V guitar (background) in the photo.
